Area 51, does it really exist? It is known as a mysterious place, became famous for its man film productions. Not many know that in this area their happens to be constantly highly Top Secret military and scientific experiments. This location found in the exact middle of the state of Nevada, About 360 km north of Las Vegas. This installation is highly protected by its natural range of high mountains in which prevents external views and protected by the state that refuses to admit its existence. This location includes a military unit with a nuclear firing ground “Nevada Test Site” camp “Nellis”. Area 51 extends for about 26.000 square km in the inland of Nevada, this military base presents 1/5 of the entire “Silver State”. Area 51 lays on the coast of a dry lake “Groom Lake” this base named “Dreamland”. In this area, the most sophisticated planes of the Usaf tested as the U-2 and F117 Stealth. Recently seems to be working on a project called “Aurora” the future substitute of the stealth and super helicopter invisible to our present radars. The activity of this basis started in the far 50’s where they trained new pilots and tested new plains. In the 60, is an incredible increase of sight seeing ufo in the entire country, coincidence?
The base became off limits to everyone. It is known that a project was developed called “Red Lights” it consisted in flying test plains of non-conventional aspects. It is retrained that a reproduction of the “47 Roswell” crash was tried on the ruins of the Ufo. The studies went on but the technology in that period probably did not permit to continue so that at the end of the 70’s a terrible accident interrupted all the work for many months. In the early 80’s in coincidence of Reagan president ship and the race to the armament, the experiments started again without stinginess. Up to this nothing wrong, it is normal that a big nation like the states continues working on technological and military development. So what does Ufo have to do with Area 51? Further south from Lake Groom another salt lake “Lake Papoose” was establish a special headquarters called Area S4. It was made known by the physicist Bob Lazar who worked their in the 80’s. Obviously, it is impossible to enter in the basis but you can reach Rachel (the closes town to area 51) and Groom road, the street that will drive you (on your own risk) to the gates of the basis. First, I supposed to leave for Las Vegas, the most visited destination of Nevada. My suggestion is to rent a car in good condition so theirs no risk to be stuck in the desert.
Crossing deserted lands, you will rarely have a car in front or behind you. Another important thing is to control your radiator and the water level and have a full tank, because the first gas station you will find is half way your journey. Besides these normal rapprochements, the journey you are going to start will be a real “experience” of life. Driving for 3-3 ½ hours in the desert between cactus and mystery, in fact for good part of the journey you will be coasting base Nellie and Area 51. It will not be unusual to find military helicopters flying over you, or observe military jeeps supervising and following your movements from the peak of the hills. I am not a daydreamer nor a fanatic but what I can say is that this short trip will give you emotions that maybe you will never happen to try again. My fearless mate and I the morning of July 27 1999 penetrated into the heart of Nevada. The first direction to take is north East, road I-15, which takes to Salt Lake City. You must run along for about 30 km, until you reach the joint with US-93. Take him US-93 in direction north and follow it for 180 km more or less. In this part, you will be coasting the mountains that hide basis Nellie. At first, the scenery will be dessert, and then will change to find you passing through landscape or ranches and stock farms of cattle’s. Remember to fill up your tank at Alamo, the closest urbane (10 houses the most) will be at about 200 km trip. You will notice a sign that indicates that Alamo is the last possibility of gas station until you reach Las Vegas.
After Alamo, you will quickly be crossing two other little towns Ash Springs then Crystal Springs. Reaching a town you must turn right and then turn left under the overpass towards the famous ET Highway 375 in west direction, or rather called the street of Ufo’s. Entering you will find the typical sign of “375” obligated destination for a souvenir picture. From this point on be very careful at the Milepost, careful also to the signs that indicate the miles you are crossing. Now you will be crossing some bends that will bring you on the Hancock Summit were you could enjoy a wonderful view of all Tick boo Valley and on the right all Groom Mountains. In the valley, you will notice that only one road exists which seams endless and that it ends up with the sky. On the way threw ET 375(70 km from Rachel) It is possible that you will see flying over you military planes bombers B52 and what ever else. The road you are crossing is where the most sight seeing Ufo was recorded in the whole planet, and these dates are widely documented. The sign E.T. 375, or Extra Terrestrial Highway, was given from the American government, was not work of a fanatic or tourist. Continuing or trip, down from Hancock Summit, at the height of about milepost number 32 you see on your right a white mail Box ( easy to see in the middle of the desert) and in front of that a dirt road that brings you towards Groom Mountains. That is the famous Groom Road, the road that brings you to Area 51. It is long about 40 km that you will not be able to cross it completely because of the high guard control hidden in the desert. If you like to go risk remember that you might end up in jail and pay a fee of 600$. However, neither a simple picture next to Hundreds of signs crossing the road written, “Not allowed passing no pictures” are hard to resist. Pay attention in not exaggerating penetrating to much this road because the use of weapons by the soldiers is largely permitted. Continuing towards Rachel, were you will find a typical bar motel Little A’Le’Inn (pronounced little Alien). In this bar, (there is a tombstone outside in memory of part of the film Independence Day shoot ) the atmosphere is really particular; every wall is wallpapered of photos taken in that point, you will understand why there’s a lot of talking about Area 51.
If you have, the luck to meet one of the 98 inhabitants of Rachel you may understand by looking in their eyes that something strange goes on behind those mountains. You will notice the silence around Rachel, mystery taking over. Looking at the Mountain View on your left you will notice the tops over all. Bald Mountains a sophisticated sight seeing system constantly scanning all and everyone in this small-lost town. Realizing it cannot be only a simple military basis, what is said and saw grows the dough on Area 51. Before leaving towards Las Vegas, I suggest to visit Area 51 Research Center of Glenn Campbell, one of the most important researchers of this mystery, author of the pictures of the basis. Leaving unwillingly this place I suggest to pass at least one night in this town. At night Rachel is populated, like vampires. Everyone sitting under the star full sky chatting of more or less, holding a binocular and a good camera. The nights around these parts are always a little particular. |
